Since August 14th, countryside areas around Idlib and Aleppo in Syria were attacked, for the first recorded time, by organized flight of hobbyist FPV racing drones strapped with explosives and military warheads. This tactic was adopted by both Syrian Arab Army and Ansar al-Tawhid.

Some sources said that the drones SAA used were Russian-made, but no clear evidence was given; since such drones can simply be procured as loose parts kit on open market, we make no inference as to the physical origin of these attack drones.

Wherever these drones came from, this event marks a significant technological transfer from Russo–Ukranian conflict battlefield to the Syrian civil war battlefield. It is not beyond imagination that such tactic will be further adopted by other paramilitary forces in the future.
